Netizens blast Deped Region XI's decision to close lumad school

Sa interview na lumabas sa isang balita: DepEd-Davao information officer Jenilito Atillo said the schools were not opened due to their failure to renew their annual permit to operate.

"Gusto nakong klarohon nga walay pasirad-an na Salugpongan or Misfi schools nga on permit status kay in the first place, wala lang man gi-open ilang mga eskwelahan for the year 2015-2016 (I will just want to make it clear that no Salugpongan or Misfi school operating on permit status was ordered closed. They were simply not opened for school year 2015-2016)," Atillo said.

Samuel Terseis:When something isn't opened, it is closed. That's how I understand things. So what exactly is DepEd trying to say? Or with these kind of statements, are they the one who should close down, instead of those schools?

Saterria Parody:To DepEd officials,

In a country where 9 out of 10 lumads do not get education, ( because we have a very sophisticated, brilliant and perfect educational system offered by honest government through DepEd in their dreams.. ) how can your mind, oh sorry, your heart, oh rather your mouth afford to order the closure of these lumad schools???

Did the concern schools commit gross violations enough to close them and consequently, deprive over and again, the lumad children of their right to education?

To the executives of these department, i understand ,you were just, maybe, confused that 'not closed and 'not opened' are synonymous. Ok.

BAKIT?

By the way, aside from dues which you are very very familiar of, are you also familiar of the term 'due process'?
i think you are alien to that term. i hope too soon, you will meet and be introduced.

Prof. Arnold Alamon: To close down these schools also mean the weakening of these indigenous communities to protect themselves from external threat. This I believe is the ulterior motive behind the concentrated attempts to vilify these valiant efforts to bring education to the lumad hinterlands. (in a column)

Cong. Luz Ilagan: Fadul does not see the value of these tribal schools and if she is proving to be a hindrance to the development and learning of the lumad children then the DepEd is no place for her. She should explain.

Benjie Valbuena, ACT National Chairperson: Dr. Fadul is a big disgrace for the education department. Instead of recognizing and appreciating the big help STTICLC is doing, Dr. Fadul allowed herself to be used by the military and other armed groups of the state in their continuing attack and abuses against the students, teachers and residents of the community. Her action in favor of the human rights abusers shows that she is not yet satisfied with her inutility to provide state school for the residents. Dr. Fadul should immediately vacate her position. DepEd is for educators and not for military and human rights abusers.

Rius Valle: These children had long been deprived of proper education and only because of the Salugpungan Ta Tanu Igkanugon that they were able to have a taste of how it is to get basic education. What she is doing now is an attack on the children and the schools, the same schools that provided the children with education at a time when DepEd was a failure.

Cong. Terry Ridon: We denounce these systematic attacks against tribal schools that only aim to extend education to lumad children. How can the Aquino administration sleep at night knowing that children in these remote areas are being deprived of basic education because of heavy militarization?

This recommendation runs against several resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and national laws which discourage—if not prohibit—military entry in schools.

Heto naman ang plano ng organisasyong lumad sa Southern Mindanao Region ayon sa isang balita: Pasaka (Confederation of Lumad Organizations in Southern Mindanao) spokesperson Isidro Indao said they would keep on staging protests until their call to resume their classes would be heard.
